Brighton Hotels benefit from Fringe Festival

Posted by: andrewmcd on: June 29, 2009

Brighton Fringe FestivalThis year’s Brighton Fringe Festival was huge success with over 700 events taking place during the comedy and film celebrations. The only problem you will have when at the fringe is choosing what acts you want to see as the quality has been class throughout and there is something for everyone as the diversity in the acts has made sure that no one will be left disappointed.

This year we had dancers, musicians, comedians and actors taking to the Brighton streets, strutting their stuff to large applicative crowds. No official figure has been released but it is expected that this year’s festival has easily beaten last year’s record number of 30,000 visitors.

During the activities the town of Brighton has benefited well from hosting the free festival with the news that all hotels in Brighton along with bars and restaurants had seen massive increases in sales and bookings.

Hotels in Brighton for May Bank Holiday

Posted by: andrewmcd on: May 15, 2009

We’ve spoken about our love of Brighton before and the chance has come to go and visit again.

Yes, amazingly its that time of year again – the traditional UK May bank holiday is almost upon us. If, like us, you are looking for a great traditional ‘beach and candy floss’ weekend then you could do alot worse than head down to the Brighton on the south coast. Brighton is the perfect bank holiday destination, it has a great beach front, a pier to keep the kids amused, great nightlife and some of the hotels in Brighton are excellent.

Our choice for next weekend is the Ramada Plaza – a lovely Georgian building on the seafront with views right along The Prom. The interior matches the grand exterior, retaining an air of class whilst giving a great feel of Brighton itself. You are just far enough outside the centre for it to be quiet but near enough to stroll along the front at night. Ideal, can’t wait to get there.

What are you getting up to this May Bank Holiday weekend? Let us know via our Bank Holiday Poll!

Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Tax Dilemma

Posted by: boydie on: April 22, 2009

CaribbeanThe Caribbean tourism and hotel industry is standing up against the UK’s decision to apply U.K Air Passenger Duty, as of November 2009 passengers travelling from Great Britain will face paying an extra £50 per person per economy flight and £100 per flight per person per higher class flights and are likely to be increased in the year 2010.

The other pending issue with this is that their seems to be discrimination against the Caribbean when you look at the proposed taxes to competing countries, as a country that depends on tourism this high tax band is going to hit hard and the Caribbean wants to know why we are being charged so much more than neighboring countries that are our competitors?

Edinburgh - Jewel of The North

Edinburgh - Jewel of The North

We have posted previously of our fondness for Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. Edinburgh’s unique geographical situation surely give it the distinction of being the most beautiful city in Britain. The dramatic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle is a sight that wows millions of tourists every year.

A city as rich in culture and history as Edinburgh always has a great deal going on, therefore we thought that it would be useful to collate some of our favourite Edinburgh links.

Accomodation

  • Our favourite all round Hotel in Edinburgh is the Ramada Mount Royal – Offering stunning views across the castle and Princes Street, this is definitely our hotel of choice in the city.
  • If you are looking for something smaller and more intimate, then the Edinburgh Lodge is a good option.
  • For a very grand and posh option, check out Melville Castle – only 15 minutes from Edinburgh and a truly stunning building.

Food and Drink

Attractions and Events

  • The Edinburgh Festival - Still the biggest arts festival in the world, book as early as possible for some of the bigger shows or just hang around the Gilded Balloon, from late July through August there is always plenty going on!
  • Edinburgh Castle
  • South Queensferry – Home to the twin engineering marvels of the Forth Road and Rail Bridge.
  • The Royal Mile

These are just a few of my favourite Edinburgh links – if you have any more to contribute please don’t hesitate.

Twittering Your Trip To London

Posted by: andrewmcd on: February 12, 2009

These days it seems that the ‘micro-blogging’ tool Twitter and its community are never far from the headlines. For anyone out there who has managed to avoid it so far,  Twitter is a Social Networking site that allows users to provide updates on whatever they happen to be doing via either their mobile phone or computer. They can do this by either posting links or using plain text updates limited to a maximum of 140 characters. Individual users can post about anything they like, and once you are in the community you can follow any other people, topics or organisations that are of particular interest to you.

There are almost no topics which are uncovered by someone within the Twitter community. Of most interest to us at UK Hotel Offers are the Hotels and Travel Twitter users – and we are spoilt for choice. For example, if you are planning a trip to London and you want up to date information on the latest public transport updates, the BBC and London Travel have Twitter pages. You can even discover which heathrow airport hotels would be best for you.

After you have signed up, the best place to start is the search page, enter your topic and start following people, and if you’ve got anything to contribute get invlolved in the community and get tweeting.

Hotels Moving into 2009

Posted by: andrewmcd on: January 28, 2009

Hello everyone, firstly we apologise for not posting for a while – a belated happy 2009 to everyone. Anyway, on with business, and it seems these days that all we seem to hear is bad news. The effects of the “Global Financial Crisis” are beginning to filter through into almost every area of society. Obviously, the hospitality sector is not immune from this, indeed many are predicting that 2009 could be one of the most difficult years the industry has ever faced. What this means for us as consumers is difficult to guage – we thought that we have have a poll to try and identify what our readers travel plans are for this year. Simple stuff, but still the results should be interesting.
