5 Reasons to visit Scotland

Posted by: andrewmcd on: September 19, 2008

The ex-first minister of Scotland Jack McConnell tried to brand Scotland the ‘Best Small Country in the World’. Although this rather patronising slogan has since been shelved, the truth is that McConnell was not far off the mark – Scotland is a fantasic place to visit. It offers something for everyone – here are some our favourite reasons to visit Scotland.

1) Stunning Mountain Scenery – the highlands of Scotland are the least populated area in Europe, this is due to the landscape being so rugged it is impossible to build upon. There are some beautiful mountain landscapes in this area. Glencoe, Torridon, Skye and the Wester Ross area would all provide unforgettable visits.

2) Vibrant Urban Culture – Edinburgh is the Capital City of Scotland, and is a tourist mecca. The world famous Edinburgh Festival takes place every August, whilst Edinburgh Castle and the National Galleries of Scotland all provide wonderful experiences. In marked contrast to the capital, Glasgow is a bigger, more in your face city. What it lacks in beauty it more than makes up for in spirit, with a lively and cosmopolitan night-life and shopping experience that is second only to London in the UK. In addition to these two main cities there is also Aberdeen, Dundee and Inverness in the Highlands – one of the fastest growing cities in Europe.
