This is a great time to find great offers for hotels in the UK, it’s not that the industry is going through a bad time, it’s just part of the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry. Because there is a slight lull between the high points of Summer and the Festive period this means that there are hotel rooms to spare, and what happens when hotels have rooms to spare … bargains.

Some might think it is a bit sly to wait till the last minute to hoover up the available bargains, but why not, they are there, take advantage. The hotel industry is only willing enough to offer these rooms at the rates they are going at, therefore it is fine to take advantage.

This is what is to be expected in any sector of the industry which is based upon seasonal peaks and troughs generating more money at times to see it through the rest of the year.

Just check in the press, and or, the interweb, regularly you’ll soon find the bargains.

A while ago I posted about Nottingham and made a lot of references Robin Hood, I suppose it was to be expected, there was a big movie coming out at the time, and the man and the city are somewhat linked!

But to try to say that there is nothing about Nottingham besides Robin Hood and his Merry Men would be nothing other than a lie. So I am here to correct that little oversight. Nottingham is one of the main cities in the Midlands, receiving about a third of a million foreign visitors each year. Among the many attractions which draws this number are the Nottingham Food & Drink Festival, the famous arboretum, and of course many do come to see Sherwood Forest and associated merry sites.

Nottingham has two of England’s most prolific football clubs, Nottingham Forest who tasted European Glory in the 70s, but are going through a shallow period at the moment, and Notts County, the oldest professional club in the world, and currently the team which has played the most matches in the English League.

The city is also well served for this tourism, as it is almost completely at the heart of England it is served by all modern forms of transport, making it both easily accessible and easy for those in the city to visit the countryside. Nottingham is also very well served when it comes to hostelries and hotels, There are hotels in Nottingham city centre & suburbs. So there it is far more to Nottingham than “men in tights”, the next time you’re looking for a break, think Nottingham.

For most people the main attraction of a break on the southern coast of england-shire would to be to go to the traditional places such Brighton or Portsmouth or even Southampton. But this lack of vision means that for many people who know much better, can get to enjoy one of the lesser known gems around the English Riviera, ie Bournemouth. Not only is it a lovely part of the country which is yet to be spoiled by over-commercialised holiday makers, it is allegedly the happiest place to live in the UK.

The town has really come of age in this new century, there are plenty of new hotels in Bournemouth catering for every type of tourist, from the surfer to the shopper. [if you didn't know that Bournemouth was the epicentre of British surfing then you do now [it was the first place in the world to build an artificial surfing reef!]]

But just because you know where you need to be going for your next weekend [or even longer] breaks, but try not to tell everybody about it, we still want a bit of space when we go a surfing, eh!

Ryder Cup

The Ryder Cup is a golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States and is contested every two years, the venue alternating between courses in the United States and Europe. The first ever competition took place in 1927 in Massachusetts, USA. Originally it was teams from the United States and Great Britain which competed for the cup with Team USA grabbing the win. After the Second World War, the USA dominated which led to the Great Britain team becoming the European team in the hope that the competition would be more competitive and exciting. Since then the teams have shared seven wins each. In 2003, it was announced that the Ryder Cup event of 2010 would be held in Wales with the Celtic Manor resort in Newport being the venue.

There can be little more satisfying sights to the eyes of city folks than centrally located parks in major cities, the two most famous being New York’s Central Park and London’s Hyde Park.

Having great open areas in the middle of cities, are important to allow the citizens to relax, and to take in some fresh air now and again. They are also the only place that people can seriously take a constitutional [if the kids still do that sort of thing], as long as they are maintained by a proper authority, many have suffered from neglect in the past.

But central London’s Hyde Park is a park to behold, owned and maintained by the Royal Parks of London, this is no mere park. Among the many things that attract so many visitors are the famous lake that almost bisects the park, the Serpentine, and of course the world famous speakers’ corner, which bring tourists from throughout the world to see this remarkable bastion of free speech.

For the tourist, around Hyde Park is one of the loveliest areas in the capital for enjoying everything that London has to offer, it is close enough to the main shopping streets, there are plenty of underground stations close by, Hyde Park hotels are quality, and it is close enought to the West End, and the hip and trendy Notting Hill, that there are plenty of diversions through the evening and night so you will never be without something to do.

And of course what could be better than having a fresh coffe every morning with the view of the park as the backdrop to your breakfast. The life.

One of the most popular beaches in Britain has to be the beach front at Brighton, the resort of the playboys of yesteryear on the Southern Coast of England. Not only is it one of the most pleasant beaches in England, but Kingsway the main street that follows the promenade is dotted with classical hotels, which overlook both the beach and the English Channel.

One of the main pursuits of the many people who spend part, or all, of their summers is to spend long afternoons out front of the many beach front hotels in Brighton watching life go past, the people strolling up and down, having the odd glass of pimm’s. The beach is not only a good place to try to get a tan though, it is also a lovely place for a wander, as it is set off by the pier and the lovely buildings of the more classical parts of Brighton.

So if you wish to spend your leisurely summer afternoons relaxing in the glorious English Summer, in one of the most pleasant cities on the South Coast, the best place to be is in one of the hotels along the Brighton beachfront, spending your time with the beautiful people.

Leeds is gaining in reputation and stature as a city, and as a city break destination. The biggest city in England’s biggest county has now garnered a list of plaudits as long as your arm. Some of these are listed on the excellent Leeds, Live it, Love it website, and included are the following interesting notes on the city:

Leeds. Home of the best tall building in the UK. (Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat Awards 2010)

Leeds. The UK’s best shopping destination. (Rough Guide to Britain 2006)

Leeds. One of the UK’s top cities for restaurants.

The city is also mentioned for the size of its financial centre and its quality of life, including the high amount of green space per citizen. It’s a proper modern Northern Metropolis! And with all this on your doorstep and some amazing scenery just outside the city it’s always a good time to head to West Yorkshire and book yourself a Leeds hotel.

If you need an excuse, then the Leeds Festival provides a pretty good one. If loud rawk music’s not your bag, Leeds is the only (English) city in the UK outside of London with its own repertory theatre, opera house and ballet companies.

Among the many fine hotels in this land, many have a long and interesting history. Among them, today we will be concentrating upon one in the lovely Georgian new town of Edinburgh: the Hotel Mount Royal. The hotel uilding began its life as the Royal Hotel and came from the mind of architect Sir William Hamilton Beattie, who designed the building in 1876.

The building is excellently placed facing as it does on to Princes Street, and beyond to the Princes Street Gardens, the building is adjoined to the famous Jenners department store [the second oldest department store in the UK] and is in one of the most chic shopping streets north of the border. Perfect for a stroll through the new town streets, yet close enought to the old town, with views of the Castle it is perfectly understandable why this was the spot chosen to make visitors welcome in Scotland’s Capital.

The Hotel itself has undergone many changes since the Victorian Era, mainly during the immediate post-war period, but it is still there doing what it was meant to do, providing comfort luxury and a home from home to the many thousands of people who choose to come to these shores to enjoy the culture and lifestyle that Scotland has made famous throughout the world

Here at UK Hotel Offers we’re always on the lookout for cool new destinations, as long as they’re in the UK and have a hotel there, obv!

So it is good to find not a hidden gem exactly but a pace that is known and loved by many, but of the UK capitals is perhaps the least talked-about in terms of visiting.

Cardiff has all the advantages of a capital city but few of the drawbacks – it’s big enough to feel like a city, but small enought o retain that personal, friendly vibe. It’s close to the water, it’s also close to some real countryside. It’s a lso a compact, modern city with everything to offer the visitor – including some spellbinding history. So, while Cardiff as a name may not trip off the tongues of travel people quite as quickly as London or Edinburgh, you’re definitely missing a trick if you don’t get yourself along to the capital of Wales.

Getting to Wales couldn’t be easier – just 2 hours on the train from London, or about 6 hours from Glasgow/ Edinburgh. Book some train tickets, book a room in one of the Cardiff hotels , and off you go. A new experience awaits.
